Some of the things I love most about October:
- My birthday on October 8! I love getting phone calls, and texts and facebook comments telling me happy birthday. I get giddy when the receptionist at work calls to tell me I have a delivery, knowing that my mom has sent me a box of warm Tiff's Treats. I'm hoping that this year is extra special, but that remains to be seen. But despite the unknown, it will be great because...
- OU WEEKEND! Ever since college, I have loved OU Weekend. I love everything about it, even the traffic heading to Dallas (yes, I'm crazy). It's so much fun seeing cars of fellow Longhorn fans, all embarking on an epic weekend. The atmosphere inside the fairgrounds on game day is something special. I can't describe it... you have to be there, to see the throngs of fans in their burnt orange or crimson... the stadium divided in half. It's college rivalry at its finest. Throughout college, my birthday happened to fall on a day surrounding the game so I always celebrated my birthday in Dallas, stuffing my face with a corny dog and funnel cake and getting pitchers of beer spilled on me at Across the Street Bar. I'm excited for this weekend and to spend my birthday in Dallas at the game/fair.
- Halloween! It's no secret that I love dressing up for Halloween. I have some Halloween costumes in mind that I would like to do in future years, but this year is a group costume. Or it was going to be a group costume. The plan was to dress up as the Spazmatics and perform some songs during our work party. However, just last week a board meeting that I need to attend was scheduled for the Friday afternoon before Halloween, so that puts a damper on things. Grr. But I think that I want to go out for Halloween, so regardless I'm going to need a costume. While Spazmatics are funny for work, I'm not sure about going downtown. Plus, that means the entire group would need to go out for it to make sense, and I don't see that happening. I will need to figure something out fast. I hate waiting until the last minute, though last year's last minute costume came out great.
- Autumn colors! Autumn colors make me happy - burnt orange, golden yellow, orange-red, green, brown, beige. I love warm colors and luckily can pull them off with my skin tone.
- Long-sleeved shirts! If I could wear jeans/shorts, flip flops/TOMS, and a long-sleeved shirt every day, I would be in heaven. I like my long-sleeved shirts a bit bigger so they are more comfy and not so form fitting.
- Crock pot cooking! I love the smell of a slow-simmering roast when I come home from work. I'm currently tearing out/printing recipes of ones that sound good. It is a bit hard since most recipes use veggies, but perhaps that could help me experiment eating them.
- Baking! I welcomed the month of October by baking a batch of pumpkin cupcakes with cinnamon brown sugar frosting. There are more pumpkin recipes I would like to try this month. However, it remains to be seen when I will bake again. I returned the KitchenAid to Caitlin and Terence and am still without a working one. I subtly mentioned to my mom that she suggest to my brothers that they buy me one for my birthday. Sadly, I don't see that happening.
- The weather! If you are awake at 6 a.m., you should take a stroll outside. The weather is amazing at that time. Presley and I take about a 30 minute walk, lazily enjoying the cool, crisp air. The daytime temperature usually stays in the amazeball category, though I wouldn't even be opposed to it dropping to the low 80s. And then at night, it's perfect temperature to open the patio door and let Presley sit outside. Sometimes I join him and read a book or magazine.
What is your favorite month/season and why?
