December 2: Writing
What do you do each day that doesn't contribute to your writing - and can you eliminate it?

What do I do each day? Um, a little thing called work. I could eliminate work, but then I wouldn't be able to pay my bills, which would force me to move back home to Corpus... GAH! So no, I cannot eliminate work.
I know a lot of people work and still have time to write. At times, my job requires many night and weekend hours. And then I play volleyball 2-3 nights a week. When I finally get some "me time," I'm too tired/lazy to write on my blog.
I've always loved writing. When I was younger I would keep a journal. But I had a bad habit of starting one and then letting it go. I would find it years later, get excited and start a new one. This cycle continued for years. In college I had my first online "blog" - my popular AIM subprofile, which transitioned to my Xanga blog, which then moved to a Wordpress blog. I guess you could say I'm pretty fickle when it comes to my writing.
The biggest thing that keeps me from writing (besides sleep) is a lack of knowing what I want to write about. When I started this new blog back in 2009, I wanted to make sure that I didn't treat it like my old blogs; I didn't want to write about my boring day-to-day happenings. I'm also conscious not to get too personal. I made the mistake with both my subprofile and Xanga blogs, which led to some harsh feedback from friends and college acquaintances who stumbled upon my sites. However, before I post anything personal on this blog, I do put a disclaimer that it's my blog, and I can write whatever I want.
I'm still trying to find that balance between using my writing as a personal outlet/form of expression yet making it interesting for my readers. That's another thing - I don't really have many readers. I only shared this site with some close friends and my family. But they aren't really blog readers, so I don't think they actually visit my site (or if they do, they don't comment or mention it to me). I have a loyal reader (hi, Terri!). I don't necessarily write for readers, but at the same time, I wonder what's the point of blogging at all if nobody even reads it.
