A few months ago, the Smart car dealership in Austin called our organization and asked if we wanted a burnt orange Smart car for free. Of course we took it! It was decided that we would sell raffle tickets for $10 for the next few months and then raffle the car off at the A&M football game on Thanksgiving day.
The car is affectionately named Dumbo, and it is driven once a week by someone on staff to make sure it runs and all that jazz.
Today was my day to drive the car for the first time. I was told to drive it around campus for 15 minutes. I brought Derrick along for the ride, and we stopped at the LBJ parking lot so that we could take pictures and a video of us making a little loop. When I got back to work, I had to reverse the car back into the itty bitty parking space wedged between a wall and a car that was parked on the line. It was more difficult than I thought it would be.
Funny moment came when Derrick and I couldn't figure out how to turn on the AC or open the sunroof. I pushed buttons and said, "oh wait, I feel something." About a minute later I shouted, "oh shit! seat warmer...my ass is on fire!" Guess you had to be there...it was funny to us.
Here are pictures and videos of my Smart car experience. Oh, the paper on the windshield is the raffle advertisement for when the car is outside on game days.
And yes, it did take me over 2 minutes to reverse the car - I wasn't taking any chances. And ignore the random piece of hair floating on my forehead in the last picture and the hideous double chin looking thing I have going on at the end of the last video!
