Okay, I don't normally talk about my work all that much on here, but I wanted to share something funny. But I think that I have to give some specifics about my work before posting what I want to post.
If you don't know, I work for UT's alumni association (I'm sure you can figure out the name). When I first tell people that I work there, they automatically assume that I'm a fundraiser or something of that nature. Nobody in my entire workplace is a fundraiser. We are actually not that kind of alumni association. Don't get me wrong - there are some annual solicitations that are mailed out asking for money, but that's where we draw the line. We DO NOT cold call people and ask for a donation - that would be the University and the specific academic college that you graduated from that does that.
Our job is to provide programs and events to connect alumni to their alma mater. I am actually a scholarship coordinator, so I get to work with students, which I happen to love. But that has nothing to do with the story...
So anywhosits...with these solicitations - both mail and email - alumni have the option to remove themselves from any of our mailings. You can call or email and say "I would only like to receive my copy of the alumni magazine and no other forms of mail" and that will happen. Chapter emails are sent out to alumni in the area announcing events (happy hours, crawfish boils, game watches, etc.) with a little unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.
When someone hits "reply" to these emails, they go into an inbox that my coworker friend checks, and she had to share this one with me. Apparently a BBA from McCombs did not teach this recent alum how to click the "unsubscribe" link, as he decided instead to send us this message:
