Without a doubt, my best friend Julia's wedding was a rockin' good time! For more pictures, here's my previous post. Also, click here to see a few pictures on the photographer's blog, and click here to see a slideshow of pictures on the photographer's website. (Disclaimer: I look like a big fatty in the pics. Please refer to the "clothes" section of this entry.)

People
I spent the majority of my time from Thursday-Sunday with Julia, the other 7 bridesmaids, and Julia's cousins from Michigan. Prior to the wedding, I knew 3 of the other 7 bridesmaids. After the wedding festivities, it was like we had been friends for years. And the cousins - Jeff, Scott and Emily - amazing. They were so much fun. And it didn't hurt that Scott was a cutie!

Music
Ha. The first thing I thought of was the DJ lining the wedding party up to enter the reception. He then told us that The Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" was going to be playing and that we had to dance going into the room. All 8 bridesmaids and groomsmen looked at each other with a "what the hell did he just say?" expression. I quickly shouted to the bartender, "we're going to need 16 shots ASAP!" But the DJ nixed that idea, saying there was no time. I looked at my groomsman companion and asked what we should do. I figured we might as well have fun with it. Yeah, he nixed that idea as well. There might have been a fist pump when we walked in and that's about it. Some peeps got into it but most of us really needed that shot - and advanced warning! Oh...and the loooooongest version of "Cha Cha Slide" ever! The DJ came out and started rounding people up to the dance floor and kept pausing the music. C'mon, man...the song freaking tells people what to do - "hands on your knees, hands on your knees...now Charlie Brown." Otherwise, it was the regular wedding music.

Food
If I remember one - okay, three - things about the food from the wedding, they are:
- the wedding cake - Besides being absolutely gorgeous, it was delicious. I'm finding that more couples are going with elaborate wedding cake designs and are neglecting the taste (ahem, disgusting fondant).
- the groom's cake - I don't like chocolate cake, so I didn't actually have a piece. But it was quite memorable in that Julia and James found a way to be true to their style. The strawberries that were floating down the river were too cute and a definite tribute to their favorite summertime activity.
- the macaroni bar - Some people had never put bacon on their macaroni prior to the wedding. Can you believe that?! Again, in staying true to themselves, Julia and James incorporated their favorite foods into the reception. Guests loved filling a small martini glass with macaroni and then hitting up the toppings bar to finish the pasta off with whatever combination their heart desired
Drink
The amount of alcohol consumed that weekend was pretty ridiculous. I actually started drinking beer because of the wedding festivities - namely because I was hanging out with the cute cousin and others playing drinking games, and there was no way I was going to chug liquor, so I had no choice but to pretend I was a beer drinker. And since then, no looking back. At the wedding reception, I indulged in a drink that Julia introduced me to last year - Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. I like mine mixed with a splash of lemonade, but it also works with a splash of water and a squeeze of lemon. The problem with the Firefly is that it really does taste like sweet tea; you forget it's vodka, so you keep getting refills. The next thing you know, you need the 16 year old bridesmaid to drive you back to the hotel.
Clothes
I packed 5 dresses for the weekend and wore all 5. But the one dress I will focus on is the bridesmaids' dress. Sighhhh. Julia chose a beautiful dress. Gorgeous color - complimented the brunettes, blondes and the redhead; the tan and pasty whites equally. The problem with the dress is that it was definitely made for tall, thin girls. Or, at the least, thin girls. And I am neither tall nor thin. I experienced this same disaster a year prior with the bridesmaids' dress - silk and chiffon are just not flattering on me. Or really on anyone. Those materials pair up for a clingy combination that shows every bump and curve. Again, the dress was gorgeous, but on me I felt like my curves were magnified.

Shenanigans
What's a wedding without shenanigans?! No fun, that's what it is. Luckily, Julia's wedding festivities were not lacking in this department. Highlights include:

- Drinking games with the cousins until the wee hours of the morning on Friday night.
- Scott ripping his pants on the dance floor during the reception
- The fake fight amongst the bridesmaids during the bouquet toss (I went all Corpus Kristy on those girls and snatched it right up!)
- The guy across the hall from our suite yelling at me because all the guests came over for an after-party and were too loud (pssh, whatevs...)
- Hotel security kicking people out of the room.
- More drinking games with the cousins.
- Scott and Jeff's wrestling match.
The entire weekend was so much fun - a nonstop party from Thursday to Sunday. When the weekend was over, I was so sad to leave and come back to Austin (which is saying a lot because the wedding was in Dallas, and I despise that city).
I heart my best friend!
